Spring 2014

Assignment: Create a passageway with a defined experience through the provided spaces. Materials are limited to cardboard and twine/string. It may hang from the ceiling or rest on the ground. No glue or tape allowed.

Approach: My group saw this as an opportunity to create a unique spatial experience. We were inspired from a canopy of trees. The front octagonal face creates a threshold, which, once passed, dissipates behind a massive, swooping canopy of repeated octagonal shapes. The unique fenestration of these repeated shapes created a dappled light effect. We were interested in forcing the body to move a certain way as well. This was defined through the varying heights of the swooping form. The motion of one's body through the space is demonstrated in the gallery above.
